Mike Piontek tested his sites on the iPhone Duo simulator and found that Safari doesn’t treat its right-hand toolbar as a safe area, so env() insets don’t help. Instead, Safari tints it by sampling page colors 5 to 10 pixels from the edge, an undocumented behavior that ignores theme-color and anything not fixed or sticky. His workaround for other devices, a fixed strip along the top, now looks cut off.
